As the Assistant/Associate Athletics Director – Event Management you will be responsible for overseeing all game management activities, scheduling, and parking with a focus on internal/external customer service for all constituencies. Develop short-term and long-term strategic goals for the Event Management area. Facilitate the execution of strategic and department goals to ensure they are attained.

Direct Event Management Operations including credentialing, event parking, facilities scheduling, and guest services. Serve as sports event director for select athletic sports programs. Responsible for designated events and game competitions including NCAA regional and championship events, Big Ten championships, and high school events. Supervise staff, manage sport event game day budgets, coordinate safety and security of athletics events and coordinate athletic event parking. Create special and mandated reports, and establish and monitor consistency in game management across sports programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all game management activities. Serve as sports event director for select athletic sports programs
  • Ensure customer service focus when working with gameday attendees (fans/donors) as well as collaborating with teammates (athletics and campus staff members). Interpret, instruct and effectively communicate complex rules, regulations, and guidelines to ensure sports events are played fairly and uninterruptedly, and in a safe environment for teams and spectators
  • Organize, coordinate, and manage all facets and factions involved in an Athletic event
  • Determine appropriate resolution to game day complaints and problems
  • Research and collect information, and create brochures and packets for visiting teams and officials, identifying local hotels, rental car agencies, restaurants, theatres, places of interest, etc
  • Manage sport event game day budgets
  • Coordinate, in conjunction with PUPD/Emergency Preparedness, safety, and security of athletic events
  • Manage game day staffing contracts with an outside vendor
  • Hire, assign, supervise, evaluate and terminate game day staff as necessary to provide professional game day services
  • Negotiate contracts for special athletic events both on and off campus with venue owners, facility managers, caterers, decorators, sound companies, etc.
  • Coordinate, organize, supervise and manage Big Ten, NCAA, or IHSAA Championship level events hosted at Purdue
  • Coordinate, plan, and oversee athletic event game-day parking and traffic routing with Police, Athletic Administration, and University administrators as necessary for Athletic events
  • Oversee facility scheduling to include practices, games, and facility rentals
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Compliance and Camps for athletic camp scheduling
  • Identify standards, and create an effective methodology for sports event management
  • On-going monitoring of game management practices across all sports to identify best practices and standardize game management procedures for consistency
  • Supervise the Assistant Director of Event Operations, Event Operations manager, and Operations and Sports Events Coordinator

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sports Administration, Sports Management, or a related field
  • Minimum of six years of experience in sport event planning, sports administration, scheduling athletics events, or related experience
  • Ability to effectively communicate with coaches, student-athletes, administrators, staff, and parents
  • Ability to plan and organize work ‎to meet established deadlines
  • Ability to read, instruct, analyze, interpret, and effectively communicate complex rules, regulations, and guidelines while adhering to University, Big Ten Conference, and NCAA policies, procedures, rules, and ‎regulations
  • Must be able to demonstrate planning, organizing problem-solving, project management, quality control, data collection, public relations, and excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to influence and build work relationships among a diverse workforce at all levels
  • Must be able to foster a participative supervisory style that utilizes teamwork principles to successfully guide the work of others
  • Must possess a learning orientation to change technology impacting business/sports processes
  • Personal computer and related software skills, e.g., word processing, spreadsheet, Internet, etc., necessary
  • Valid Indiana driver's license
